What Is Glamping Near Austin, Texas?

Glamping — short for glamorous camping — combines outdoor sleeping with the comfort of a hotel. At Rancho Moonrise, that means air-conditioned safari tents with real beds, hand-crafted cabins, a resort pool, and fire pits throughout the property — all on 36 acres of open Texas ranch land, 20 minutes from downtown Austin.

Our safari tents range from shared-bathhouse configurations to fully private ensuite options. Cabins also use the shared communal bathhouse. Every unit comes with A/C, heat, linens, soap, shampoo, and conditioner — no gear required. Just show up.

Check-in is 3–5 PM daily. Check-out is 11 AM. Pets are welcome. Firewood is available for purchase. The Lodge carries beer, wine, and snacks so you don't have to leave the ranch. Weekend dates — especially those coinciding with live music events — fill weeks in advance.

What the Photos Don't Tell You

The shared bathhouse is its own building, not a trailer. Corrugated metal walls and ceiling, cedar plank floor and framing, a carved river-rock sink on a raw cedar vanity, and a walk-in shower. Guests in cabins and standard safari tents use it; premium tents have their own ensuite.

Fire pits sit at the sites and throughout the property, and firewood is sold at The Lodge. Worth knowing before you plan the evening around one: fires here are extinguished by midnight, and fire pit use pauses whenever Travis County has an active burn ban. Central Texas summers put one in place most years.

The donkeys work the fence line. They are not a scheduled activity and nobody brings them out on a timetable — they show up when they show up, usually near the pasture edge, and they are the reason a fair number of guests walk the property before coffee.
